SCC on LK Live!

Re: Singer Steven Curtis Chapman and the Death of His 5-Year-Old Daughter Maria—and Comforts the Teenage Son Who Accidentally Struck Her with the Family's SUV

Last night was an incredibly emotion evening for Steven Curtis Chapman and his family. They were invited (and accepted) to be on Larry King Live to discuss the death of their youngest daughter Maria Sue and how they have been coping. It was an emotional evening for many people across the world I am sure, as others have had to deal with similar grief. I know it was for me.

I have not experienced losing a young child like the Chapmans. I haven't even witnessed a tragic death within my immediate family, young or old. I have however, dealt with losing 3 unhealthy babies which made their own impact on my life and my faith. I have had the ups and downs or trying to understand "why" (which I have stopped asking as I won't have any answers this side of heaven). As I watched LK last night, I realized that I have so much to learn about life and faith, about love and grace. I can't imagine the thoughts, frustrations and pain the Chapmans have had to walk through, but I sure can learn from their God-allowed situation and how they have responded through it.

If you were able to see it, you would have heard all 3 of their children speak confidently about their faith and yet painfully about their walk over the past few months. And at the end, from a mother's heart you hear Mary Beth say "When it got to the darkest, darkest point ... we might have landed right on our face, but this foundation was solid and it was there and we landed and it's a day at a time."

That's the type of faith I would like to have. Being able to say, despite the ill thrown my way, or the destructive choices that may have been made, that depsite how dark and grimy it gets and how hard I fall, this foundation-the unwarering love of Christ-is solid!
