Some of you may remember my "Robin Red" posts earlier this year when we had our own resident nest on the deck. (Check it out here) We have another one and today the babies flew the coop. This time there were only 2 babies compared to the 4 or 5 in the previous nest. And there's another difference this time ... these babes don't have it in them to fly just yet. They know how to flutter, and they get a little ways, but that just won't cut it when their yard is the same one as a few dogs!
You see, there's one specific dog! His name is Cooper (the dog from upstairs) and he loooooves chasing wild life. Squirrels or birds, it don't matter ... and unfortunately, today he caught one of these robins. G had put on a couple 'bag gloves' and put the baby in a tree, but it wants to fly!!! But didn't make it to the next limb, and a while later we noticed Cooper running towards us with a fluttering baby in his mouth. Once Cooper dropped him, we noticed one of his wings was broken ... so I don't know that nature will win this battle. However, we decided to put the dogs inside while these babies and momma spent some time figuring out the next move. I think that was a smart move on our part! *I still have a couple of those from time to time you know!*
Anyway, all that story babbling just to say that once again ... NO MORE BIRD POOP ON MY DECK! Yeah!
