Not Our Game

Real Estate ... truly not our specialty!

Just over three years ago, we purchased a house in the country and have enjoyed turning it into a home.  However, we are starting to sense the change of seasons in our life and have it listed with an agent.  In fact, an accepted offer made us think we were making a move before Christmas.

As with our all our real estate experiences, there has been a 'blip' in our move.  The buyers had a septic specialist come in and informed them, due to his visual examination (which by the way, was taking the spetic tank lid off and NOTHING else), our weeping/draining field was shot.  Those of you who know anything about these systems know that the weeping field is not visual from the top of the septic tank!  (Septic info found here)  Needless to say, we have a second opinion coming tomorrow!  With that, we offered to meet them half way should they choose to put in a new septic system.  They refused.  They wanted us to foot the entire bill.  At this point, for the price we settled on for the house, we decided against that.  It helps to NOT be in a hurry to sell!

And that's not all ... late last night our agent informed us that the water test they had done came back with levels of E. Coli.  Yup ... apparently our water system (a surface well) has been contaminated.  Combine those two results, and who would want to buy this house?

Having said that, we continually flush our toilets, do loads of laundry and have no septic backing up!  We drink the water, my son drinks the water and all three dogs drink the water ... we are all still alive with no extra limbs!!

So what now?  First ... a strong cup of coffee (maybe with a little Baileys!) and thinking through the next few steps.  On top of all this 'selling' drama, I have been offered a job in Calgary, Alberta and have two additional interviews this week ... one in Calgary, one in Lethbridge-where we had planned on moving and Gino would build a house!

Time will tell.  Once again we will back track, take some breaths and take just a few new steps at a time.  First steps ... second water test and septic specialist.

Here we go ... what a (tiring!) ride!!!!!!!
