Today is a memorable day for me.
Four days ago my mother called me and told me dad had a heart attack, but he was stable. I immediately changed my schedule and flew to Alberta to be with the family.
Over the past few days, (previous blog entry here can update you on more details and lead you to some photos) we have realized just how many mini-miracles paved the way of Dad's major miracle.
1) Lethbridge Medical acted incredible quickly and fervently to minimize any damage to the heart
2) Once in Calgary, Dad's medical treatment and surgery were completed in less than 24 hours (and the surgery was done through a small hole in his wrist! Unbelievable!)
3) Mom's friend was getting ready for a trip to Calgary Thursday afternoon when mom needed to get a lift there to be with dad ... perfect timing!
4) Dad was ambulanced back to Lethbridge Friday evening, less than 48 hours after the surgery
When we went to the hospital today to pick dad up and bring him home, I realized just how fortunate we were. After all, we are in a country, a province, that not only has the ability to care of emergencies like heart attacks, but they do so with such speed and expertise. My father keeps saying how he applauds the EMT's, doctors and medical staff for their amazing service.
It was a miracle for me today. It was a moment of gratitude to be able to drive my father home, to run to the store to pick up his meds and to sit at the dinner table and eat dinner (an incredibly healthy --scary healthy-- soup my mother made!) with him. After all, the opposite would have been bringing mom home, alone. And then realizing that an incredibly wise servant had been taken from us.
I am so thankful that I am still able to learn from this servant, my father! Love you dad!

Wow, that is amazing! And it makes me scared to live in Quebec! Can we move where you are?
