Mom is thrilled that she is coming and feels incredibly blessed that all 3 of her girls will be around this weekend to love and care for them. I feel pretty honoured to have some serious sister time too. We were all together for 2 or 3 days in June, but were pretty jipped on quality time together for various reasons. I think this weekend will be good. Good to be together, good to care for our parents together and good to share some laughs (and tears I'm sure!) together.
You see, I am 16 years younger than Karen, 18 years younger than Heather. I was a flower girl in their wedding in 1977, and was only 3 years old. I never grew up 'with sisters' persay. Sibling rivalry for me was non existant. I was like an only child for my parents, tho in reality they were raising a second family!
Over the past five years or so, as Heather and Karen's children have grown up, some married, some with kids, the three of us have started to relate more often and at a deeper level. I think as our parents continue to age, that will also play a role in our interaction despite the geographical distant between us. I have come to really value my time and conversations with them. I realize just how fortuntate I am to have sisters who have been married 20 years longer than me, raised their youngsters already and have walked alot of life that I have yet to walk. Really, I have wisdom and life experience available to me. Not only that, but above all, we share a faith that resides deeply in each of our hearts. I am incredibly grateful. There is nothing greater than that in a family.
So here's to a sisters weekend of caring and loving our parents, laughing and crying together (I'm sure!!) and enjoying the family that God has put in place. Love you Karen, Love you Heather!
