A Mother's Greatest Fears

This weekend marked Buddy's most dangerous weekend EVER!  A weekend I wish we could redo if turning the calendar back actually changed today's date ...

Saturday was a windy, blah-kinda day and a fundraiser BBQ was happening for the centre I work at.  We debated on going or not just because of the weather, and in the end went for an hour when the sun was out and wind was really moving.  The BBQ was part of a town festival, most of which was taken down by the time we got there.  However, we were able to get some great food and chat with friends.

While we were there, it was crucial for us to take turns keeping our eye on Buddy.  Being 2 1/2 makes everything very exciting and every movement is VERY fast.  On my watch, I was fully engaged with Buddy as I jumped and said "I'm gonna get you!"  Not a wise thing to say to a two year old on the sidewalk ... the next thing I knew, I screamed and jumped into the road to grab him!  If I had been a couple feet further away, or 2 seconds slower, Buddy would have been in full contact with one of the most dangerous beasts on the road--a moving car!

It was an incredibly scary moment.  Getting myself together after that, took a good while.  Driving home was surreal, a few tears and many, many thoughts, some of which were questionning my actions of course!  But I am having more and more thoughts of gratitude.  We definitely had God's angels around us that day.  There are moments in life that really make one think ... this was one of them.  My son was not hurt in the slightest way and we all left that day looking forward to the evening.  I am so thankful for Christ's protection on my family.

Then on Sunday afternoon, I came home to see my hubby and Buddy with his little fingers in a bowl of water.  By son had decided it was time to see what touching a lightbulb was all about.  Not any lightbulb--a halogen one.  Standing on top of the counter brings on a WHOLE new world of exploration, and not safe exploration!  His poor little fingers!  He spent the next hour with his hand in water and him crying "Bo-Bo away Mommy.  Bo-Bo away".  My heart broke, G ran to get some medication for the burns and I held my little man.  Fortunately, it wasn't incredibly bad, although at 2 anything like that is bad I guess.  The blisters are now about to pop and my son happily is saying "Bo-Bo away Mommy"!  I am once again so thankful that this is nothing more serious ...

Here is a picture of Buddy's fingers ... poor kid!
