So here's some useless information for my hubby ... and I thought I would share it with you too!
Neti-Pots, aka known as Nose Bidets. Some people like 'em, some people don't ... and the other 80% of the world, probably has no idea what they are. All I know is that they worked for me, Oprah and Dr. Oz. (Sinus pressure rinses are also available. ie HydraSense)
You may remember some of my complaining about my over-stayed Sinutitis. I had it for over 4 wks, with two separate prescriptions for antibiotics-which did close to nothing- and it led me to be on two puffers for bronchial distress. After my second bout of meds, I decided to try something natural. Pharma-Prix (aka Shoppers Drugmart in the rest of Canada!) supplied me with my first Neti-Pot.
In short form, this little devil is first filled with a warm salt water solution. At that point, you make sure you have a box of kleenex close by and your head over the sink (or outdoors!!). You proceed to put the mini kettle into one nostril, tip your head sideways and over the sink. Should your sinuses be working properly, the solution will make its way up one nostril and out the other. Sounds inviting doesn't it!? While breathing through your mouth (and praying it doesn't visit your taste buds) you let that marvelous solution do it's trick. Then you repeat through the other nostril.
When I first started this procedure, my sinuses were so blocked, nothing made it's way through. After regularly doing this four times a day for 3 days, my sinuses were no longer clogged or discharging crazy colours of mucous. I continued to use the Neti-Pot twice a day and when I consistently use it, I don't seem to have less issues with my sinuses.
My husband on the other hand, won't give it a fair shot. He has come down with a nice head cold and complains (as most men do!!) of full sinuses. Three days later, I think he has tried it a total of four times ... and he has the nerve to complain it's useless. All I have to say is "MEN"!
Anyhoo, of those of you who are into this sort of thing, or just plain curious, check out this not-so-beautiful sinus cleansing YouTube video . Heck, why not? What's it gonna hurt ...
