9-1-1 : A Mothers Nightmare

9-1-1.  I don't like dialing those numbers.

I was a pre-occupied mom this morning.  I was too worried about washing out the medicine cuplet when I turned around and realized my son had ingested almost an entire bottle of Children's Tylenol Decongestant.  You know-the stuff they try to prevent you from buying if your youngsters are less than 6!  Ya ... that's me.  So pre-occupied with cleaning the stupid cuplet (and then distracted with the other messies in the sink) that I didn't put the lid on the medicine bottle.  That was a moment I will NEVER forget.

Immediately I panicked, and called a few numbers.  Realizing I needed to contact emergency, I dialed poison control who told me to immediately start driving to the hospital and call 9-1-1 on the way.  While in the car, my son (thankfully!) threw up.  Never thought I would be so grateful for that sign!!  9-1-1 sent an ambulance to meet me on the highway and they took us to the closest hospital that had the capabilities to take care of a childs emergency.  Never realized some hospitals don't!!

Long story short, between vomiting again and vitals being checked every 1/2 hour, he was doing okay.  Aside from being a little lethargic and begging for something to drink, he was a trooper.  Once at the hospital, they checked us into pediatrics while they continued to monitor him and do blood work.  Once the blood work came back with normal levels, they would discharge us.  We understood that to be 24-48 hours ... well, God is good 'cause we are home tonight!  Two sets of blood work done and he is good to go.

Such a scare ... such a dummy!  For you mommas (and papas) out there ... PUT THE LID ON THE BOTTLE!!  If all you get is a short read and an idea from this blog ... let that be it.  Put the lid on.  That's it, that's all as my mother in law would say.

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support today.  I am just grateful for a home, a hubby and son who are here with me.  Today life came into perspective once again!  Thank you friends.  Thank you family.
